Ready to stash your wrought iron decorative wall art away? If you just answered yes, then hold off that thought for just a little bit. Go ahead and read on these six reasons why you should consider on keeping them.

1.    Wrought iron accessories in general keep a rich history. Did you know that “wrought iron” as we know it today is very much different than the “wrought iron” of the past? Their main difference lies on the type of metal used. For one, the earlier pieces were forged out of pure iron cores or ingots while artisans of today make works of art using mild steel – a combination of iron and slag or impurities.

In the earlier centuries, manipulation of pure iron proved to be so tough that the blacksmiths or artisans who had the capability to wield them were deemed highly by the society that they belong to. In fact, during the time of Bishop Dalberto and his successor in Italy, an elite group of blacksmiths was established and duly recognized by the church.

Throughout the years, the art was shared to other people during the renaissance period. Since pure iron core proved to be too rare and expensive, blacksmiths looked for means to expand the quantity of metal. After several trials, they found that mixing impurities to the iron core not only increased the volume of the metal but also made them easier to form.

2.    Most wrought iron accessories like decorative wall art, wall grilles, candelabras and sconces are hand crafted. Modern wrought iron turned out to be so brittle to be handled by a machine. This factor makes each accessory unique in its own sense.

3.    They are very versatile. They can easily blend in to any interior design. To achieve a modern look, hang a black metal wall grille on a white wall. If you are a fan of the rustic French era, you can create a warm contrast by painting the same accent with maroon and displaying it over a cream or pale yellow room. Simply said, giving the piece a makeover is as simple as changing the color of the accent.

4.    They are more durable compared to other home accessories made out of wood or glass.

5.    Maintaining them is a breeze. To keep them looking like new all you have to do is to clean them with dish washing liquid diluted in water once every two weeks. For daily cleaning, you can simply dust the pieces with the use of a soft wash cloth or feather duster.

6.    Lastly, if it is the rust that bothers you most then do not worry. There are a lot of rust removers that you can use to give your wrought iron pieces a quick fix. Just remember to follow the precautionary measures stated in the bottle as direct contact to the chemicals may create a health hazard. However, if you are not exactly in a hurry, you can always opt to use non – toxic alternatives like white vinegar, pure lemon juice or baking soda.
