Home accessories made out of wrought iron have proven to be a good investment for home owners. Apart from being relatively cheaper than their counterparts, they are also sought after because of their unique designs and their ability to outlast almost any home accents. Then again, their longevity also depends on their owners. After all, you cannot really expect the pieces to look brand new years after purchase right? But, there is no need to worry, keeping them clean and presentable is not exactly hard. It only requires a couple of hours or sometimes even minutes depending on the size of the décor.

To give you an idea, here are the common procedures to keep your wrought iron decors clean and beautiful.

1.    Scan your home for everything that needs to be cleaned. Inspect your candelabras, candle sconces, wrought iron plaques or decorative metal wall panels. Remove the screws that attach them to the wall and place the screws in a shallow multi purpose dish for them not to get lost.
2.    Dust the decors with a dry wash cloth or a soft brush. Take out as much dust as you can prior to washing. Do not attempt to use brushes with hard bristles as they may damage the paint or worse, scratch the metal itself.
3.    Prepare two basins of water. Mix a few drops of dish washing liquid to the water until you achieve a mild soapy solution. If dish washing liquid is not available, you can also dilute powdered soap to your solution. Just be reminded to rinse the item thoroughly because soap has the tendency to leave a white film on uneven surfaces.
4.    Start with the bigger pieces. Get the decorative metal wall panels first for example, immerse it in water while gently rubbing the soap with the use of a sponge. After successfully cleaning the entire piece, transfer it to the other basin for rinsing. Rinsing the decors immediately and thoroughly prevents the soap from staining the paint of the metal.
5.    Rub off excess water by using dry wash cloth. It is important that you do this as soon as possible to prevent the metal from developing rust.
6.    Set them aside and let them dry. While drying, check them for any signs of rust. If presence of rust is observed, spray on your preferred rust remover. Use appropriate protective gear and follow the application directions as stated in the bottle. Some rust remover solutions can be so hazardous that direct contact can cause skin irritations, blindness or poisoning when ingested.
7.    Retouch chipping or scratched paint if necessary. This can protect the metal of your décor from further damage.
8.    Some people also opt to put in car wax to add an extra sheen to their wrought iron accessories. But, this is actually optional. This step is only necessary if the piece is situated in a humid place or if they often get in contact with water.
9.    Repeat the process once at least every two weeks. In between that time frame, you can keep them clean by using your handy dandy feather duster daily.
