Candles no matter how big or small have always been a representation of
relaxation. The smell of burning wax, the dim light and the dancing tongues of flame always had the capability to soothe our nerves right after a hellish day at work or a busy day in the city. For one, they are also known to be effective in neutralizing unwanted smells from almost any part of the house, be it at the kitchen, dining room, bedroom or bathroom. This is perhaps why more and more homeowners are starting to incorporate wrought iron candelabras, and candle sconces into their interior design.
Candelabras and sconces can be made of several materials. They can be made out of glass, marble, granite, brass or wrought iron. Among the makes mentioned, people have the tendency to get inclined towards wrought iron. Why? Because they are not only the cheaper option but they are sturdier – making them harder to knock off. They are easier to retouch with paint if needed and most importantly they are beautiful to look at. Some wrought iron candelabras and sconces are so intricately designed that they can easily double as an artwork or a conversation piece.
If you are attempting to achieve a rustic country look and you have a spacious room, there is nothing more perfect than putting French – inspired candelabras on top of your shelves. They can also give a romantic feel on top of your dining table, counters and bedrooms.
However if space is an issue, just like in smaller flats or condominiums, you can always go for wall fixtures like candle sconces. This way, you get to utilize some shelf space in displaying your other “stuff”. Candle sconces are also ideally placed beside doors and windows. They can add illumination to dim hallways and since some sconces also double up as hangers or bath towel holders, they can also adorn bathroom walls. Then again, if you want to go crazy, you can put them everywhere! Just remind yourself not to overdo it. A large blank wall can accommodate 3 to 4 sconces at a maximum. As much as possible, choose pieces with the same design and choose designs that go well with your interior. If rustic French design is not to your liking, then you can always pick something geometrical with more edges than curves.
Here is the thing, some people are a bit hesitant with sconces because of the potential fire hazard that they supposedly bring. Then again, what others fail to realize is that, these sconces only become a fire hazard if they are not installed properly or if you use a candle that is not recommended for the fixture. So before you buy one, make sure that you are furnished with installation instructions and that you are guided with the type of candles are you supposed to use with them. For example, if you decide to buy tea light candle sconces, do not attempt on putting taller and heavier pillar candles on them.
